Well I knew I'd get around to talking axolotl poop eventually!
Just found a floater in the tank - has anyone come across this before? One of mine has been doing the bum-in-the-air thing half the day, so I'm assuming he passed bubbles in his ppop hence the floating nugget.

Yeah once or twice ive found floating poop, i have no idea why it floats lol, but its easier to clean :D

I haven't come across floating poop yet! I did however find what could have been a world record for the biggest axolotl poop yesterday. I'm not even kidding, I don't know how something so small passed something that large!

Still haven't seen anything like that. I'm definitely that type of person who would make a 'hilarious' video of it.

There's no avoiding it!

Could be air, perhaps fatty poop? What's your axies diet?

The only floaters in our house come from moi. Sorry, couldn't resist sharing. Be glad that I didn't mention the fact that some have the size of an axolotl.

I call them Tootsie rolls!

I'm not worried - I thought it quite amusing really! My axies are on earthworms, with an ocaasional mealworm and some pellets thrown in - so not likely to be fatty poop, probably just air.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
