Hi guys , I bought an Axolotl a week ago n he was fine up until 2days ago wen he's been floating at top of tank n finding it hard 2 stay at bottom , he's been hiding in his little cave 4 past day but iv noticed he's still not touching bottom of tank , any ideas in wot I can do pls , thanks.

What kind of substrate do you have? How warm is your tank? Did you cycle it before hand? What kind of foods are you feeding?

Floating is usually a sign of constipation.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
