yesterday my axie didn't move much. it just walked around the bottom a bit. this could be due to the fact that he just moved into his new tank. now today he is swimming everywhere and looking like he is having a little trouble getting to the bottom as he is a little floaty.

what is wrong??

please help!

was your tank cycled? if not have a read about it here http://www.caudata.org/cc/articles/cyclingEDK.shtml.

axies can tend to 'sulk' when they get into new surroundings, they need time to settle in. however they normally dont float when settling in so what is your temp? your in aussie so it will probably be quite high. what are your parameters and tank size.

i think i may have overreacted (being a new mum and all). i actually think he was just going for a really big swim. he is on the bottom of the tank now and isn't really doing much (not surprising since 26 kids have walked in and peered at him (he's our class pet) swimming around!

the water looks a little cloudy though. i didn't cycle my tank but have been doing 30% water changes daily. i did my first tests today and pH was 7 and ammonia and nitrite was 0 (dont have a test for nitrate). i think these are normal.

thanks for your help.

your ph,ammonia and nitrite sounds good. axolotls arnt very "active" creatures. they are a lot more active when younger. whats the temp of your tank?.

temperature of the tank is approximately 20 degrees. this is right isn't it?

yeah thats fine, i find once my axies hit the 15cm mark they got alot lazier
