Damn !
i fed my golden axie a earth worm about but noticed my axie didnt look rite a while later then it went into the corner of the tank and threw it up
"about an hr later" then went up to the top for a little while, then back down and had a few convultions, it was like it was dry reaching
it freaked out a little "like myself !" then it calmed a bit.. now she does like a swallow every now and again but seems to be calming better now
"Phew" that got the heart going
do u think i should put it in a smaller container
away from my other
cause it's pretty stressed, now i see what u mean about gills pointing forwards...

Hi Rob,

Elsa did this last week, never seen her do it before.

She threw her food back up, then for the next 10 minutes kept opening and closing her mouth, sucking in water then shooting it back out again.

Yak it was horrid, I could see right to her stomach.

Anyway, after that she seemed a little stressed, so I put her in the fridge over night - just to cool and calm her down. (she likes it in there anyway, her little detox room

)

The next day I let the container warm up to room temp (took 6 hours) then replaced her in her tank.

She's right as 9 pence now.

Still don't know what caused it though?

Hope this helps

Mine do this when I feed them really mucus-y food, like they're trying to rinse the gunk out of their mouth. But they've never thrown up their food before doing it. Could be related?

Yeah! I mean, mine has never thrown up his food, but a couple of times it looks like he's hiccupping? I mean, no air comes out, but he just opens his mouth all the way, and snaps it shut real quick, shooting sand all over the place. It's happened twice, and lasted about 5-10 min. each time.

Amanda, they do yawn on occasion. I've had axolotls for years and had never once seen one yawn until just the other day. It was cute!

Does it look cool when the sand shoots all over the place Amanda? I think it would.

I've had my little guy spit his food back out, mainly earth worms...I don't think he particularly likes them but when he's hungry....We all know that axies are driven by their stomachs lol. Never seen him throw up though.
However once I chopped up the worms a bit he tended to stop spitting them out. I think they were too long for him to swallow up so he'd bite them in half, spit half out and because i hand feed didn't realize there was still food near him...Such a silly cute boy.
