You can leave the worm in there for a while, you will mainly have water quality problems with frozen foods or pellets as they foul the water quickly if left.

Forgot to tell you that it takes a couple of goes to wean them onto worms. Best to cut them up so they are about the same length as your Axies head is wide. Keep trying, it'll be better for them in the long run.

@Possum63, don't know about which is more accurate - I've always used the API one and found it to be easy to use and read. Interesting thought though .....

It might not eat the worm if it's too big. You might have to chop it up so it's about the same length as your axolotls head. I would try encouraging it to eat by dangling the worm in front of it. Normally they can't resist wriggly worms.

I'm so glad to hear that! He might take a little while to respond to you hand-feeding him - but now he knows how yummy they are he'll probably snap them right up! (All axolotls seem to love earthworms, some more than any other food. It's one of those things).

That's so true. Mine goes crazy when he sees the turkey baster.. Chased it around and the other week and he latched his mouth onto it.

thanks so much for the help he is getting better i am going to but him back in the big tank soon he has had two worms today he skin is all better the other just loves to worm she just snaps them up she is still getting salt baths to clean up her feet. also there is no more rocks on the floor it is bare and there is only rocks for hidy holes in the tank and i just brought some pips to put in. the ph is around 7.4 and we have a heater in the tank because it is winter and the temp is set on 18 is that okay.

If you've measured the temp using a thermometer and it's 18 that's perfect. Just be careful it doesn't get too warm with the heater on

Your axies will be fine without a heater, they are all good as long as the tank doesn't freeze! You also said you were saving for aquarium sand, play sand is good and soooo much cheaper
