Hi there! My brother just came home with an axolotl he found in a sewer puddle (I think it's a baby). I am researching what I need to do to take care of it now but I'd love to know what my most pressing concerns should be to keep it alive. I have a couple of pics attached (sorry for bad quality). Thanks so much!!

Hello new axolotl owner! I am happy to answer any questions you may have but if you want the answer to any question you have or will have just go to http://www.axolotl.org/index.htm. It will have an answer to everything. And if you run into any problems that are not on the site, use it to email John P. Clare, the creator of the site. And If you need anything else just PM me.

Hi.

This is most likely a tiger salamander larva. For the time being keep in clean cool de-chlorinated water and feed with night crawlers. Look out for signs of metamorphosis. This will be receding gills, bulging eyes, receding caudal fin. When this happens, it can be quite quick, so make sure you provide something for it to haul out onto.
