Four-toed sal in RI

I haven't posted on here in awhile, but me and a friend were out looking for some early spotted sals (A. maculatum) by a vernal pool near my home in southern Rhode Island and I came across a nice four toed salamander (Hemidactylium scutatum) instead. I found a couple A. maculatum yesterday, but this was (in my opinion) an even better find. I've never found a four-toed before so it was fairly exciting. We saw plenty P. cinereus and a pinkish wood frog (Rana sylvatica) today as well. Good day overall, and a nice start to the year, spring is certainly coming!

Nice findings. I am in MA and havent seen the spotteds yet. I am waiting for the first good rain since the snow is gone. We have had some good rain but still too much snow

Nice find, Ryan. I love 4-toeds.

We've had a couple of good rains here, but it's still below freezing at night. I did hear peepers last week on a warm day, but I haven't seen any salamanders yet.

We've had some good rains here in RI, snow is gone for the most part, but it still gets below or near freezing at night... so I've been surprised by how much I've seen this past weekend.

I'll try and check that vernal pool in upcoming weekends (and maybe some more pools around the state) for more spotteds.

**Oops, just realized I mislabeled the pictures... that second picture is certainly NOT a redback, and the third is certainly NOT a wood frog (at least not by my standards!)

four toeds are sweet! i still have yet to find one, the salamanders have started movin in WI

Just saying Dane_Zu that finding 4 toads is pretty sweet and you spelled 'toads' wrong ( I know that you meant four toed salamanders, but I like to take things the wrong way and make a joke about it.) Also Ryan, I love 4 toed salamanders!! Probably my favorite salamander species ( then olm, then Chinese fire bellied newt, then japanese sword tail newt... getting off topic...) but still the red backed salamander is apparently in dark phase and the wood frog... out the few I have found none of them have been pink but it is not unheard of.
