Freeze dried or alive?

Should I buy freeze dried crickets or live baby crickets? I have 3 Ensatina Salamanders, and I hear that they are triggered to bite something from movement, but I don't know for sure. Which is easier and most likely eaten quicker by my sals?

If you do a quick search, you will find that freeze-dried foods have practically no nutritional value.

With crickets, you should gutload, and feed a varied diet, and not put so many crickets in that they nibble on your salamanders.

I would use worms as a staple and vary the salamanders diet with crickets and other arthropods.

I keep all of my Ensatina on live crickets exclusively. I dust them with Reptivite about every third week. I use to supplement with wax worms, but I found too many not eaten because they would dig in.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
