Frog evolution linked to mass extinction event

An interesting amphibian news piece based on research published in the journal PNAS recently. The study reveals that 88% of all modern frog species were possibly the result of the mass extinction event that wiped out the dinosaurs 66 million years ago. The rapid diversification is thought to have occurred when surviving amphibians filled ecological niches left behind. For example all tree frogs are now thought to originate after the asteroid strike .
