Frog with swollen eye

I hope it's ok for me to post this here instead of in the frog forum? I think it'll get more views here, and maybe someone's had a newt or salamander with something similar...

It's a small Pobblebonk morph, about an inch long. There've been a lot of these crossing the road at night lately and I brought this one home because he had a funny eye to start with. This was taken about two weeks ago:

You can see the small bulge above/behind his left eye in that picture. In the last couple of days, it's ballooned and now looks like this:

I'm not sure if the eye is still working/responding to light normally or not, I'll try and have a better look today. Right now it's living in a small tank with a mixture of peat, sand and potting soil to burrow in. He/she is eating small crickets and flies and has grown over the weeks, so apart from the eye it seems healthy enough. Is there anything I can do to help? There aren't any vets around that specialise in reptiles/amphibians so I don't know if they'd be able to do anything I can't... Any suggestions? This little guy needs help!

Just to follow up, I still don't know what caused the infection in the eye but it is doing much better now. We ended up taking a (looong) trip to the vet to have it drained. All that came out was some clear odourless fluid, which is a good sign I think! I'm rinsing the eyelid with clean water and putting neosporin over the cut. Things are looking good so far- it's nearly back down to normal size and the frog is eating like every bit will be his last! The eyelid is quite loose now, and is overhanging the eye a bit so I hope this doesn't cause problems. It does seem to have receded a bit since it was drained two days ago. Have a look... what a fat frog!
