I woke up this morning and first thing, like everyday, checked on all my babies. Everyone seemed happy and perfect; greeting me when near the tank, job done.
I went out for the day, came back an hour ago and noticed one of my boys had fungus on a gill, which certainly wasn't there this morning. Obviously, I've taken all due action; given him a salt bath and placed him in the fridge.... my question is why?
I've checked the water quality; perfect. There's no current from the filter, no bullying from tankmates, temperatures low this time of year and no chance of impaction. He is still eating well and is acting his normal, friendly self.... So why the fungus and in such a short space of time?

are you sure it was fungus and not just a piece of tank debris, sometimes if i dont pick up the poop quick enough they little cottony like things float away and usually resurface when my axies are doing a little tank redecorating, could something similar have just landed on his head?

Nope, definitely fungus  I thought that's what it could be when first saw it but it was stuck on there like glue! Since being in the fridge he has been to the toilet and the fungus has fallen off! But again, why?! He's never shown any signs of constipation or impaction and as far as I'm aware has been going to the toilet frequently. All my axies get a good diet, mostly consisting of earthworms. I feel totally stumped but being as it's already come off, here's hoping he's on a fast road to recovery! Any more advise would be great though as like I said, I'm totally at a loss!

Hmm that's strange. Sorry I'm stumped to what it could be, maybe one of the axies just accidentally nipped him on the filament?

It really is weird! He's always been a hardy one but maybe it was down to accident. These things happen!
