Fungus

One of my two axolotls seems to have fungus pretty badly and hasn't eaten in around a week. What do I buy to cure this?

You can buy anti fungal drops to add to water.

Common names are myaxin and protozin. Ask at an aquarium shop.

Also try salt baths...follow the recipe for holtfreters for a guide on how much salt to add.. You don't need the other ingredients for a salt bath.

My advice is to read my post about the stuff on the eye. You'll see small fungal infections can get worse!!

I think this is beyond a salt bath. Im heading to the aquarium in about 10 mins. I know axolotls are great recover's, but can they pull through a fungus infection which they've had for around a week?

Mine lasted 2 days. Refer to "Stuff on eye" for latest info.

Sure it's fungal and not bacterial? Is there any more info or pictures you can give us Cavsta?

I can get you pictures tomorrow afternoon. I added the drops today, so we'll see how it goes. Im going to read the eye fungus now.

I really don't see any reason to use expensive medications when salt baths will adequately treat most external bacterial and fungal infections. I have successfully treated mudpuppies and greater sirens, and some of them were pretty bad. I use 10-25ppt baths for 10-20 min, and then keep 2-3ppt salt in the tank.

Salt baths are useful for treating many skin ailments and fungal infections. but there are a whole host of things that won't respond to it and additional medication should be considered.

I bet our hospitals in UK wish they could treat most things with salt baths. Especially the superbug problem.
