With all the gill deterioration problems i finally got some medicine for my babies, its called Furan-2 and it is supposed to be effective against all gram negative and positive bacterial stuffs. It is supposedly the same stuff as Nitrofura wich is listed as a safe medicatioin for axos. It comes in these small capsules that have lime green powder inside. One capsule has 60mg Nitrofurrazone, 25mg Furazolidone, and 2mg of Methlyne Blue Trihydrate. It tints the water a greenish color.

I put in the medication yesterday and so far everyone is still alive

thank you michael>> i was so worried that i was going to come on and see a warning from somebody about that stuff!
you dont know what a weight that is off my shoulders! i really wasnt sure about it!
just curious; did you follow the recommended dosages on the back of the box or go a little lighter? i ask because i have heard that sals are alot more sensitive to medication like this then fish.....

I've used it from 1/2 to full strength on axolotls. I have also used it on a Tylototriton with toe rot.

ahh ok i had been using almost full strength, i wasnt sure
thank you again Michael

Glad to hear you found someone who had used that stuff with sallies & axies Heather...also that it seems to be working

Mike do you know if it is good for a range of ailments? Or have you just used it on a trial & error basis?

I completed the treatment a while ago

my axies are all better! that stuff works good, whatever it does

Hi Mik, I've been real busy with my job at the fire truck factory. Between that and taking care of animals I don't read all of the posts. Furan - 2 is good for a variety of ailments. It contains Nitrofurazone, Furazoldine, and Methylene blue. It works for many gram negative and gram positive bacterial disease, aeromonas, fungus, and tail rot.
If I have a salamander with a wound, fungus, or one that is just swimming funny I give it a doze of medicine. That isn't always the best way to treat animals but it has worked for me.
