My axies have been flotting(both of them) now ffor about a 2 weeks. First i thought time would get rid of it now im getting abit worried. Could it be air bubbles in the body. I keep my tank very oxygenised but they still come up for air. THat has been happinging now recently in the past 2 days.

Any suggestions? The fridge is not an option.

Do they eat air bubbles from an airstone? Mine attack the airstone at whim, and then float.

When's the last time they've pooed? Mine sometimes float before poo, one almost every time he poos. Maybe try cutting out food for a few days and see if they poo and that helps.

actually i havnt saw any poop around the tank for a while now. I uslualy see some then suck it out but now i dont....hmmmm.

Ive never seen them atack the air stone, so im still guesing.

Whats your water quality like.

My young ones tend to float about a bit if their tank temperature comes up a bit or if the nitrate levels start getting out of hand (small tank + bloodworms = high nitrate

hello,
I am new to this forum and to axolotl. Yesterday I bought a 5 gallon tank,to house, and after finding this forum, will bring it back and buy a ten. i am wondering if flourite substrate is of for these guys. i will set up before i bring him home. I'm having a hard time figuring out how to read these threads. Do you have a suggestion for a hob filter?
(hang n back) i do have several fish tanks.

You should start a new thread in the "Tank set-ups, filters, substrate" place and also use the search to find any topics on substrates and flourite?

Where did you get your axolotl? The pet shops that sell axolotls do tend to sell plants for them and could give advice on what to use for growing them in.

welcome theresa!
HOB's are great in my opinion.
ideally you want at least 45 x 30 x 30cm for one axolotl. visit www.axolotl.org and have browse around, might find something useful.
first you need to cycle your tank (i assume you know about that) and adding filter media or something like that to your new axie tank will speed up the process a bit.
