I bought this beautiful axi 2 days ago (my first one), needless to say I'm in love already!
The guy at the shop I bought it from couldn't tell me the gender. Is there any chance that one of you out there can tell me?
In the meantime I've presumed it's a he and called him Carlos! So hopefully he won't need a name change :/
Also, I know with the golden albino's can have white spots, I just wanted to check that his are genetic and he's not sick. If anyone could give me their opinion it would be much appreciated!!

My guess is that Carlos is a male (a skinny one)! I'm not sure about his coloring...does his tail look pinkish or is that just the picture? I'd try to fatten him up a bit. ;) What and how often are you feeding him? Also, do you know what your water parameters are like?

Thanks so much for your reply Sharon, really appreciated!!
I'll upload some more pictures of his tail in better light, it's an orange colour with thick white spots. The pattern also appears on his feet and body but it's not as strong.

And yes, I thought he looked really skinny too, he's been eating like crazy! I've been feeding him Hikari sinking carnivore mini pellets, the people at the store told me to feed him 4 a day. I thought he looked really thin so I've been feeding him 2-3 times a day and he gets through about 4-10 each feeding. I've also got some frozen bloodworms I'm going to try out tomorrow! Got to feed my boy up!

He's currently about 6" (15cm), and the length and width of his tank is 34"x12" (60cm x 30cm). I've treated the water, the ph is very close to 7 and I've been adding a product to the water that promotes good bacteria growth in new tanks. I just want to give him the best life I can.

Looks like a little boy to me.
I would also feed him worms too. They love it!

I agree that Carlos looks like a he.
Carlos would probably love some earth worms, you can keep some in a worm farm and you'll have a continuous source of nutrient packed food. Those pellets that you have are often recommended on the forums. The reflective pigment that you see on Carlos is normal. Here is a picture of my Goliath, he has similar colouring:
