Hi Johnny,

Thanks for the tips. Frankly i explored every option and tried out all the conservative methods. They all help reduce the snail population at least momentarily, but nothing is effective at completely eradicating them. Even 1 residual snail/egg can lead to a population explosion of snails. I manually pick them out now whenever i see one. There will be weeks that i thought wow finally all gone, until i get a rude shock the next day, with generation z snails creating bedlam.

I eventually got my vet friend who is an aquaculture specialist to come help with suggestions. Alas, i think all our options have already been exhausted. Actually the snails don't really bother me that much now. I guess i have resigned to having them around.. permanently..

Cheers

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
