Gills have completely shrank!

Sorry about all of these posts... I'm just trying to help my little guy out. I've been posting recently about treating a fungus with fridging and salt baths. I just went to go give him a second salt bath before bed and his gills have completely shriveled. There's still some redness where the gills originally were, but they're definitely not long strands like they were before. Could this be from the cold temperature he's been in or is this from the fungus he has on one gill?

Most likely it was the fungus that ate away the gills and the salt just killed off the fungus affected gills. Gills take the longest to recover and as long as you don't see any more fungus you should avoid salt baths and just stick with keeping it in cool water. It sucks waiting for the long fluffy gills to come back but sometimes they won't be as nice as before. It's better to find the cause of the fungus. 6/9 axolotls had fungus that destroyed good portions of their gills. I was at a loss since by the time I came home the tanks were below 70F. Turns out my roommate set the ac to 79 during the day while I'm in class so the tank would creep into 73-74F for a few hours.
