hey guys, im planning on going away fro a week in september but there will be no one to look after my axies.
they are around 5.5 inches and are on a diet of blood worms and earth worms.

will they be ok for the week, what should i do about food?

any advice is welcome.

thanks x:happy:

How many have you got and in what size tank? Individually they will be fine for a week without food but if you have a lot together there may be water quality issues after a week or they may start to nip at each other.

Regards Neil

thanks for the reply, ive got two and their in a 3 foot tank at the mo.
one of my axies is prone to floating and im worried without food he may start to float again?

What kind of substrate? Just thinking you could add some live blackworms (if you've got a bare bottomed tank) and some freshwater shrimp (glass or red cherries- need to get them from somewhere they've been quarantined for 30 days, or quarantine them as long as possible) as backup :)
Hope you have a wonderful time!

ive got a bare bottom tank. did have sand but found it to hard to as clean as possible.
if i got the live blood worms would i have to quarantine those as well?

Honestly depends on the setup at the breeders- My LFS has them set up separately in the fridge and uses the rainwater tank for them (not from their tanks), so I have no worries about them going straight in :) I'd suggest just double checking to be on the safe side, but you should be good to go!

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
