You get what you pay for - buy cheap & it may not be reputable or it may be close to use by date. Stick to well known brands & get a liquid kit not the strip tests.

I'd say go find another aquarium shop or pet shop to see if they have any - bigger the store the better as they should have more stock & you can get the freshest (longest use by date) otherwise a good online aquarium supplier should have them.

In the meantime if you feel you need to check the ammonia urgently most fish shops offer water testing - sometimes it's free :)

The thing iis, there is only one petstore [in the entire country], and apparently they don't test water :(

I just looked at your location 0.0 sorry I didn't realise how remote it was.

I'd be ordering from a reputable online supplier ASAP :) there's plenty of good ones around - google suppliers & compare prices / postage / speed of delivery etc

I highly recommend getting a freshwater master kit (API / SERA) which will cover all the parameters like Ph / Ammonia / NitrIte / NitrAte - all essential :)

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
