Gravid C. e. popei?

Hi Mina. I see from your profile that you keep a couple of C. e. popei. Wondering if your female's gravid, are you? Here are a couple photos of a gravid female (same newt in both shots). They can get larger in girth than this

I'm guessing they must be laying eggs like crazy for you eh?

Nicely rounded, Jen

And not your typical belly pattern on that one!

Joseph, not at the moment anyway. The nominates are the ones that lay eggs like crazy, almost year-round. That last photo was from yesterday but here's another of the same C. e. popei that was taken a couple years back when the tank was full of offspring.

I've got other photos somewhere in which she was so plump with eggs, I'd worried she was bloated

Mine are laying right now, and I have a bunch of larvae in the tank... it looks very similar to what you see in that last photo from Tim. Raising babies is so much simpler when you can let the babies grow up with the adults

Yep, sure is!

Here are some photos of a nominate C. ensicauda straining as she lays an egg:

Also, a surprisingly plump morph/juvie I found last night in the land portion of the tank. I can't imagine what it had been eating as there are no food sources on land that I'm aware of and it doesn't seem to have only just morphed...

I tink mines gravid. My computer doesnt want to recognize my camera so I cant get pictures up...

How large of a tank are these newts in? This helps to see how multiple animals are kept and the quantity of plants and hiding places.

I finally got some pictures
Here is the newt:

There are only two, she could have gotten gravid at the store though. There are also three white clouds (I monitor them very closely and they are not causing stress. COuld they eat eggs though?

She looks gravid, or else just really really well-fed. Is the other newt(s) male or female?

The white clouds will not bother newt eggs.

I think you can (probably should) raise the water level in the tank. The more water, the more stable the water quality is. Adult ensicauda rarely need to leave the water, and they are quite happy in deep water. Maybe you could put some kind of platform under the waterfall/filter device to raise it up higher. Otherwise, your setup looks nice.

I plan on raising it a little but I bought a herp tank that cant be more than half full...
