Greater siren temps.

I've been keeping three greater sirens outside all spring and summer, they're in a large 5 x 3' plastic container and are fat and healthy. Now winter is approaching i was wondering what sort of cold temps they can take. I keep my axolotls outside in a similar tank all year round and they are fine, the water freezes over and temps can get down to minus three or lower. It was pretty cold when i put them in the tank but no where near as cold as it is in january so any advice would be greatly welcomed.

I might be very wrong, but judging by their distribution, they are perhaps best kept at mild temps.
Hopefully someone who actually knows what he is talking about will chime in xDD

The parts of the US where greater sirens occur have relatively mild winters, but freezes are common except in the southernmost areas. I think they would be fine outdoors. It is a good idea to prevent the tub completely freezing over, as this inhibits gas exchange. An air stone should do the trick in your climate.

I've only had my greaters a few months and have kept them indoors. However, wild lesser sirens in my area are very active in winter when air temps are sub-freezing; in fact, the cool temperatures seem to prime them for breeding.
