Hi all :) I'm Brittany from Michigan, United States. I'm an animal lover (of all kinds), and am in my second year as an undergrad at a university. I keep a tarantula and a baby corn snake in science building on campus and have a bearded dragon at home. I haven't gotten into newts or salamanders because I was unaware of species that remain underwater (anything that is land-dwelling or amphibious is prohibited in the dorms). A friend of mine recently introduced me to axolotls and I have been researching them (online and a few textbooks) for the past three months. I'm finally near the point of actually purchasing one and am really excited :). The overnight shipping costs are a bit on the high side, so I'm planning on attending a nearby reptile show and have contacted an axolotl breeder that will be attending. I love this site and look forward to the adventure :).

Hi Brittany,

One consideration before choosing an axolotl is that they get quite large, and the aquarium size necessary to keep them usually exceeds university limits for tank size. In any case, welcome to the Forum!

Welcome! You'll find plenty of Axi lovers here. I have some cornsnakes too.

Yes, I was actually concerned about the tank size. I did some digging into the regulations and anywhere from 10-20 gallon aquariums are fine at my university.

Excellent! In that case: you are so going to love axolotls.

Welcome to the club.
