Hi,
I have been a member for a short time and thought I had better introduce myself. My name is Sandi and I live in north central Nebraska, however I grew up in suburban Chicago. Salamanders are a new interest of mine and I hope to purchase a Spotted, Tiger or Marbled Salamander in the next few weeks. I am looking forward to learning more about caring for Salamanders and how to set up a great tank for their home. This looks like a great place to learn everything I will need to know. Right now I have a pair of Russian Tortoises, a pair of Eastern Box Turtles, 2 Red Earred Sliders. a Yellow Bellied Cooter, a cat and a horse. I am kept pretty busy by all of them, but there's always room for more. I'll be posting again soon.

I lived for quite a while in Wheaton and then before I moved here I lived in Arlington Heights.

Just be very careful where you get your salamanders from here in Nebraska, Tigers especially. We live in a state where it is against the law to sell any native species in the pet trade, yet A. tigrinum and A. tigrinum tigrinum larvae can be purchased as fishing bait or collected as bait with a proper fishing permit.
(Confused about that one myself)

Almost all the rest of our native salamanders are protected, with Ambystoma texanum being listed as critically endangered here.

Hi,
Thanks for the advice. Right now I am planning on getting my Salamander most likely from someone on Kingsnake or one of the other sources I have found. I would be terrible at going out to try to catch my own!! Are there any restrictions on owning Salamanders that you have gotten from other sources?
