Grey gills

Hey everyone
Was down at LFS today, and they had 3 axolotls around 3-4 inches. 2 were melanoids and look normal, one was leucistic but with gray gills. I haven't seen one of those before. Is it a genetic thing or was it sick?

What do you mean by 'grey gills'? If you mean dark on the front with pink fronds like the pic below thats normal - it's just the distribution of pigment cells.
