I've had Chalchi and Xochi for a few months now (bought them on here  ), and they've gotten pretty big, so I'm curious as to if/when I should switch them off the brine shrimp and bloodworm cubes I've been feeding them (and then what I should switch them to).

This probably isn't helping my case but I'm still in college so money is a bit tight and I can't keep a second tank for feeders (as it is, I'm kinda breaking the rules with the 20gal tank for the kids...).

Thanks :)

Earthworms are the best food for growing axies. You'll have to cut them into bite-size chunks.

If they are around 5" they should defiantly be on earthworms by now, if you order online some companies sell baby earthworms 1".
If not you will have to buy larger ones and cut them into bite size pieces with a pair of scissors.
You could get a little tub (mines 4 litres) pop some soil in it and some pin holes in the lid, then start your own worm farm to save on money, just feed the worms some cooked potato and they will breed loads :D

Until you get some earthworms, dont bother feeding the brine shrimp, theyre pointless at your axies size, just keep feeding bloodworms until you source some earthworms.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
