I got my axolotl Ghost just under 2 months ago from a terrible pet store. This is my first axolotl so I have a few questions to make sure everything is normal. I got him at 2cm (was expecting a much larger axolotl) he is living in a plastic container and is now 4cm. Is that okay growth for 2 months? (2cm in just under 2 months) I also got him alarmingly full of fluid and his body was wayyyy larger than his head. I want to make sure that he’s okay and growing well. I usually feed him 3 times a day, 2 times bloodworms, 1 time axolotl pellets that are mushed up. I’d basically like to know if he’s growing at an acceptable rate and if he looks healthy now. I’ll do some before and after photos. He’s a little skinny in the current photo as I had to leave him over night for an emergency, he’s usually more plump.

Personally I think that's slow growing, my first batch were 5 - 6cms at just over a month old, then my second batch I had two that were 6 months old and 24cms, their smaller siblings were 18+cms.

I've had my axxie for about 2 months as well, it was only about 2-3 cm when I got it, maybe 3.5 and it's now just over 2.5 inches (6.35 cm). I read somewhere that a healthy and happy juvenile axolotl is supposed to grow 1 cm a week but I haven't found that to be the case.

Since I posted this 3 days ago Ghost has grown at least half a centimetre! I think he may be hitting a growth spurt now.

Which kind of pellets are you using?
Cut earthworms are good, blackworms also, JBL axolotl pellets with nice protein content is also very good.

Rotate them during feeding and you will get good results. Just maintain water quality at all times.

He’s eating tropical axolotl sticks right now! Also here’s an update of him today... major visible changes in the past few days
