Had something hanging from gills....

So this may be a false alarm:
While feeding my newly adopted axolotls cut up nightcrawlers, I noticed something hanging out of the back of one of their gills. It looked clear/transparent with sand stuck to it. I'm *thinking* it could possibly be the slime from the worm that came out of the gills by accident? Someone in one of the facebook axolotl groups I'm part of mentioned anchor worms. The two new ones are now separated in two tubs just in case, but from what pictures I'm seeing of anchor worms I'm pretty positive it isn't that. After he swallowed the worm, he did this thing with his mouth/gills that looked like he was chewing but it kind of sucked up a little bit of the thing that was hanging off into his gills, and he would then spit out sand. Do axolotls mouth/gills share a passageway like how humans mouth/nose do? Anyway, I'm not seeing anything on either of them now, but any thoughts on what that could have been is appreciated. I just got them 3 days ago, the previous owner fed feeder fish, pellets, and bloodworms. They were skinny. I'm transitioning them to nightcrawlers and they're fattening up to a healthy weight.

Yeah unfortunately there's nothing there now to take a picture of. Someone said that anchor worms can hide back into the host, but what I saw was not looking like an anchor worm at all. :/

been an hour of monitoring them in tubs, haven't seen anything. Thinking this was in fact a false alarm.
