hello everyone !
i have a problem with hairy algae in my tank it sooo awful,i have bought (interpet anti hair algae) i just wanted to check if this is safe to use with my axos because not so long ago i was told by the pet shop i could use sterazin safely with them but then i noticed it on the unsafe list at axolotl.org. I had already used the sterazin though will i have damaged them in any way from this ? It was about 1 month ago but they seem fine apart from one that seems to have a boil on her head, not sure if this is connected in any way.(have moved her to another tank on her own)

Just need to get rid of hairy algae please help
thanks xxxxxxxxxxx

If it is on the UNSAFE list at axolotl.org, you have answered your own question.

No, don't use it.

Instead of chemicals, I would recommend a scrubbing pad. Leave some of the algae in an inconspicuous location, and keep it cleaned off from the places you can see. Also, try to cut back on the nutrient level in the tank, which basically means more clean-up and water changes. Here is a site with more specific recommendations:

cynthia - i found the sterazin on the unsafe list.I am asking if interpet anti hair algae is safe to use .the pet shop told me both were safe but i dont trust them anymore now.

Michelle - Oh sorry, I read that wrong (Putting my glasses on this time).

When I had string algae in one of my tanks, I removed it by hand every day. After about 2 weeks it was gone. The tank it started in was a new set up. Once the tank had aged the string algae didn't come back.

If the plants that you have can be pruned back, pinch off the leaves/stems that have algae on.

I had a similar problem some months ago best advice I recieved was scrub anything you didnt want it on.

So I scrubbed my plastic plants and the front and side glas panels of my tank. It seems to keep itself under control. As long as I remember to leave my lights on the timer.
