Today I added Ernie to the tank after rescuing him from a so-called vivarium (where there is probably more death than life... gah!) and within 4 hours he was dancing up a storm and leaving presents around the tank! Don't get too excited. I don't have the time nor resources to breed axies and will have to cull the eggs as soon as she lays them

but, it is for the best. But onto happier things!! Milo, as you all know, is my pretty albino girl you see happily posing (as per usual). Ernie is my new big boy. And well, you recognize the spermatophores. I just wanted to supply those photos for newer people that needed pictures for recognition

Hurray for the happy new couple!!!

Ps. I added a quick pic of the tank at the end because I remembered someone was asking about it. Thanks for looking!!!

Ernie is getting ahead of himself abit, he only just met the girl!! hahaha :p

Gorgeous axies, but I think that Milo is a leucistic, not albino, as her/his eyes are black

Shame you have to cull the eggs though. I'd probably have to do the same thing, but I've always wanted to raise baby axies.

Well. I think Milo will think next time she decides to sit on one of Ernie's mighty spermatophores. She has been laying eggs since noon today and is still going strong. I feel mighty bad for her- she has been swimming wildly about the tank and grasping her swollen backsides with her hind feet as if to try and hold the eggs in, haha. I've taken out two batches of them, about 100 eggs apeice and hope that she is coming to the end of her laying. I'll post pictures in a little bit

As promised! By the way, I just walked in to find Milo trying to lay some of her eggs on Ernie's head. Talk about payback!

ps. Thank you Lexie- I just always thought since the pupils were red and her pure coloring made her albino

OOh i didn't see red pupils! Haha maybe you should ask someone else, there's a good chance I'm wrong :p

That poor little axie. it'd be just like having a million babies.

Think she's a leucistic. The pic looks like she has some black in her eyes ? If her eyes are completely pink then she's albino (correct me If I'm wrong ayone ...)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
