my male gfp albino melanoid axolotl has not eaten in 2 months. He has not lost weight or any coloration. He is very much still active and my water perimeters are spot on. 0 ammonia and nitrite, 20 nitrate, ph 7.6 and high range 7.4. Water temp is a solid 60°. I always do one huge weekly water change every Sunday or Monday.
For those of you who may struggle with this please do not give up and try these things I will mention below: (note these tricks were also recommended from breeders and people who are experts in axolotl care)
I have tried: frozen blood worms, frozen brine, night crawlers, red wrigglers, Hikari carnivore sinking pellets, repashy GRUB pie, I have even tried the garlic technique. Garlic is used on many species of aquatic life to help entice eating, this technique should not be long term with axolotls. You can purchase garlic guard or you can get whole garlic, chop it up and put it in a container with warm water and let it sit for a few hours or 24 hours. Remove garlic chunks and dip worm in for a few minutes then try feeding. If you do not feed worms you can let pellets or repashy and even blood and brine in it for a little bit then serve.
I tried garlic guard for the second time yesterday with half a night crawler and he finally ate! After 2 months!
