Hi everyone, I'm new here so figured I'd drop in and say hello. I've had two firebelly newts for about 5 or 6 years now, they are quite hardy. They are currently in a so gallon tank filled partially with a few land areas sticking out, and they make their home with the other occupants of my little wetland: a small red crab, 4 zebra danios, 2 corys, and an African dwarf frog. They've been housed together for quite a while with no problems. However, a few other tankmates perished. (a snail, a pleco, a fiddler crab, and two ghost shrimp who mysteriously disappeared. lol ) The danios have mated but the babies disappear quick. I will try to get a picture on here sometime. Take care all:lick:

Welcome to the forum, Petguy. Are your firebellies Japanese or Chinese? 5+ years says you are doing something right!

However, I too am concerned about other species, especially the cory catfish. There have been numerous incidents of newts injured or killed when they attempted to swallow one. Check the first link Kaysie gave (do a "find" for the word cory).

Thanks for the advice:lick:

My newts are Japanese firebellies I believe. At least thats what they had them labeled as where I got them. Oh, and I noticed in my first post I messed up my tank size. Its 20 gallon high. About to move the newts to their own enclosure soon tho. Its project time! lol:crazy:
