I'm new to keeping axolotls, starting only in March. I bought an albino female from a boy by chance while buying some second hand fish tanks. He was feeding her ham, probably because it wouldn't foul the water as quickly. She was quite skinny and her gills were almost non-existent. She has since recovered, I'm glad to say, and has beautiful gills and a big appetite. It was quite spooky at first when she would be stationary, noticed I was near her tank, very slowly moved her head to look at me skewly, and sort of flipped around to face me. She also very quickly learnt that if I tapped the side of the tank, she could follow the sound and get fed.

I got another black male axolotl from an aquarium and that is a different story. He has been in the fridge for some time now, and I will post some of his behaviours in the Sick Axolotl forum shortly.

I'm very happy to have found all of you and your questions and answers have helped me a lot. Thanks very much!

Regards,
Mun

Hi Mun,

Welcome to the site!

I hope we are able to help your axolotl that is feeling poorly. The fridge is a great vacation spot for axolotls.
