I’m new! My name is Theresa and I am a Pennsylvanian. I am a college student (Computer Science) and part-time worker. I’ve become interested in amphibians and curious about salamanders/newts- that’s how I found this forum! I’m mainly interested in learning about terrestrial salamanders/newts because I don’t think I could handle the difficulties of an aquarium’s nitrogen cycle. I don’t think it would be a good match for me.
My envisioned idea is to have a terrarium like set up with a small salamander in it. I have to be honest, I am surprised by the difficulties finding info on the web/YouTube about pet ownership regarding these guys. If anyone has recommendations as for books, YouTube channels, etc. for learning about salamander/newt care I’d love to hear it. I want to learn! :)

Hey I’m a Pennsylvanian as well! If you want great quality information you’ve come to the right place. I have a few books that were good reads but I’ll have to look for them. Anyways welcome to the forums

I am also from Pennsylvania! Welcome. I am not as active as I used to be, but this community is excellent. I personally used the caudata culture guides that are a part of this site. Plenty of great basic set ups. It also has great info on specific species as well.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
