Hello guys.
My name is Kenya [yes, my username is my name, I'm not just in love with Africa or something
]
I live in Cape Coral, Florida, work at a PetSmart, and joined to learn more about Axolotls. My friend was talking about them, and then sent me a YouTube video of them, and I'm in need! They are so completely unique and fascinating! I'm still in the proscess of doing lots of reading. I think I plan on getting a pair of them. I have not read anything about if male/male pairs are better than female/female pairs, or vice versa, so I have not yet decided on genders. I really wanted a wild type and then one of the lighter colors, but I just read that wild types can be aggressive? So no solid plans yet.
My current pets?
My betta's name is ScottyFish [long story] and he has a mostly white body with blue and purple fins. He is CRAZY. I found the most safe looking plastic plant I could and he still managed to find the one sharper ended leaf that was touching the glass, and swam back and forth through that spot about a million times, tearing up his fins. Silk plants for him.
I also have four African Dwarf Frogs in a 10 gallon. [The betta may end up with them.] They are cool little dudes. They are still relatively new, so I'm going to hold off on sexing them until they get older. So they have no names.
My absolute pride and joy? My four pet rats. I can't say enough about my boys. They own me completely, and I am obsessed. There's Pinky and Brain [they came to me with those names and I had full intentions of renaming them, but they stuck] who will be one year old in June. Brain is my evil genius, he's a black veriberk. [Black on top, white tummy] He has standard top ears and is always doing something naughty. Pinky is a total sweetheart. He has pink eyes, is mostly white, but is a mismarked champagne hooded [light light light tan color on his head and part down his back] and he has dumbo ears. [They are set low on the side of the head, and tend to look much larger because they don't fold like normal ears.] They were rescues, and Pinky loves to snuggle up next to me, but would rather not be held. Brain gave me many scars before I had him neutered! Then there's Caboose. He's mostly hairless. [Technically Double Rex gened, just on the very bald side.] He has some fuzz on his chest and the front of his arms, and a little on his nose. He is the most affectionate animal I have ever owned. You think rats are gross or creepy? Caboose will win your heart. His name is from a character on Red Vs. Blue. Tucker's name is from the same show. Tucker will be a year in July. He is my newest addition, and has not yet decided to get along with the resident boys. He and Caboose and Pinky just got neutered about 2 weeks ago so when the hormones settle down I'm hoping for good introductions. The I will have room for a tank for my future axolotls!
I know that was a lot, but, a big part of who I am is them!
I am an avid animal lover, always have been, always will be. For someone like me to work at a pet store and have only come home with a betta and four frogs is very good, and very disciplined as far as I go
I am not in college yet, I cannot for the life of me decide what I want to do.
I ride an electric bike/scooter thing to work. No tolls over the bridge and no gas. And I make it look pretty dang cool. I had snakebite piercings and now I want many more. Along with tattoos. I also want an Alienware computer. I am trying to be very broad so that more members with similar interests will contact me! I love to make new friends. Some of my closest friends are the members of my rat forum. :]
The first two dogs I plan on getting will be a standard black male doberman, with the cropped ears and tail, from a great breeder. Then a rescue female. I love reds but any girl that wins my heart and gets along with my male. [Both would be fixed of course, no backyard breeding for me. Besides, I got my rats neutered, it's only natural, heh. Next goal is to get the boyfriend neutered, just don't tell him that. Haha!!]
I am exhausted from work, and scatterbrained [as you can tell!] and don't know what else to write.
I know I will be posting lots of questions, and they will be in the appropriate places, but anyone who reads this will probably know.
Can two axolotls live in a 20 gallon LONG aquarium? We have one on sale at my store, and I want to know sooner than later :]
