I'm getting my tank set up piece-by-piece right now & I'm expecting to get my first two axies in December (one for my boyfriend, one for me). I've been doing A LOT of research so far. Does anyone have tips on how to cycle my tank before getting my juvies? I would like to do a fishless cycle. Also, how long does it take before they will start mating? I don't plan on breeding these, but on the off chance I get a male and female, I want to be prepared for accidental breeding. Name ideas welcomed too!!! Cute pet names or Mexican names. :)

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
