I am new to the forum, but have been reading and reading and reading some more on here for a few weeks now. Just brought home my first Axolotl  on Tuesday! He/she/it is only about two inches long, has all limbs and is the most fascinating creature I have ever owned. Even when it isn't doing anything...still fascinating!

Welcome, Josie!

I've had mine a few years now and they're still just as fascinating now as they were when we bought them home. You'll get to see he/she/it's little personality develop and they do capture your heart!

Good to have you here, keep reading up on the forum for the best way to care for him, and be sure to hop into some of the photo threads and show us a picture :)

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
