Hi my name is steve im from south east london ive had axolotls for about 2 years and ive used this site lots of times to find out information. Im 27 and work for Thames Water. I think the main reason for wanting axolotls was on QI on the french episode as it explained that all european axolotls are descended from the ones a french scientist brought back in the 1800's. I've kept fish for years (guppies, mollies etc) but i felt like getting something i could interact more with. I have a 4' tank with four axolotls (2 leuistics and 2 wilds, 1 green, 1 black) and i also like fishing whether its sea, fly, river or course fishing.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
