My little axolotl Charles has been twitching for the last 24 hours, I fed him last night on earthworms (usual food) & he turned down the last few which he would normally eat. Just after he started refusing the food I noticed him twitch. It was a full body twitch, & it kept happening every few seconds, some more violent than others. I straight away took him out of the tank & into a plastic container in the fridge, after watching him for 20 minutes or so with no improvement.
He kept twitching in the fridge but not as often. I just took him out of the fridge to give him an anti biotic shot the vet gave me to rule out a bacterial infection on his gills, every 3 days for 7 lots the course is meant to go for & I just gave him his 3rd one. The vet said she has never had that reaction from any axolotl on that treatment & to give him his one today & watch him. He's now twitched 9 times in the last 10 minutes, so much less after being fridged but it's still really worrying.
If anyone has experienced this from an axie before or know of anything that could help please let me know. Charlie has been doing it tough lately & I just want him better. :(

Charlie has also been walking around in the container a lot more than he normally would having been fridged since last night, I don't know if this has anything to do with it just thought I'd add that.

I've never read anything on here about twitching and don't think there is anything you can really do besides taking him to the vets.

Twitching is usually something to do with the nervous system or an irritation (which is more if a thrashing/scratching movement).

What is the antibiotic? I'm guessing that a vet who shows you how to give shots for an axie would have experience but that is the newest condition and the one to look at first. Good luck.
