My husband got this "axolotl" from petco thursday and here is is sunday and it no longer has gills? When he got it the gills were very short and the gill stumps where also short. Today i looked and there almost non existant. What should we do. When we got him our water perimeters were fine. We dont have a home test. The tempature is at 76 f.

Also we havent gotten him to eat since we got him. Only tank mates are ghost shrimp. He has 2 fake plants and a hide with sand bottom and a whisper filter

It's not an axolotl, I haven't got a clue what it is I'm unfamiliar with most US phibs. It's morphing though, ie becoming terrestrial, reduce the water depth and provide an area to haul out. Try to get an id on it so you can provide the specific care its species requires.
