Imy axolotl climbed into this piece of decor and I can’t tell if he’s stuck or not. I tried to move it around to see if he’d come out but I think I just scared him instead. Do you think this hole is big enough for him to exit? He’s around 6 in! His tail was hanging out from the bottom hole but now he’s all tucked inside somehow. Should I be worried?

hi! how long has he been stuck? has he freed himself yet? i would highly recommend calling a veterinarian, as manually removing the animal from the object could prove to be harmful

He actually came out on his own overnight! I put a piece of food right at the top of the hole and I guess he smelled it and came out. Thank you!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
