I put an airstone in with my 4 baby axolotls that are about 1.5cm last night and I have just looked at them this evening and they are dead with fungus on them. Did the airstone kill them? I am so upset
If the tank was too small and/or the airstone too powerful, it could have killed them. It would be stressful for larvae to be physically agitated by the bubbles. If not, then some other cause killed them.
I had them in a tub that was 9inches square and the water was 3.5 inches deap, had plants and was clean. The air stone was 1inch and brand new. The water was also fine, as i had done tests, and there was plenty of food for them???
My partner did it, I dont know what we where thinking, We has 21 other babies that are about4cm and we didnt ever put an air stone with them, I Think we killed them with kindness, to much thinking and interfering!
In a tub that size, it would be OK to have an airstone, but it would need to be set to just "trickle" air out. It would require some kind of valve or clamp to regulate the air flow. Sorry about your loss of the larvae, and better luck next time.
We did have a valve and it was on its slowest flow, but it was still quite powerful perhaps it scared them.
Not related to the airstone problem but...
I also have 22 golden larvae and they are all doing fantastically!!!
