Hello, I looked this morning and I think one of my babies has a fungus, his tail is curled at the tip to. he/she is about 2cm and lives at the moment with 2 other albino axies that are the same size and dont appear to have a fungus.
I have aquarium salt, but what do I do exactly, just give the dark one a salt bath? clean the tank? keep it separate from the others until it cleared, keep it in a fridge?

...HELP PLEASE!!

Ooops forgot to attach pic in the panic...
look at the Mouth and tail..

also whats the smallest amount of water I can do the salt bath in, and do i need new water everytime i do it?

Just give the one with fungus a saltbath, twice a day.

Use aquarium salt if you have it, otherwise uniodised table salt or sea salt will do.

Amounts are:

2-3 teaspoons of salt per litre of dechlorinated water for 10-15mins twice a day.

No need to clean the tank, just keep an eye on the other two. Yes do separate it; as long as you don't have very warm temperatures then it should be okay to leave out of the fridge. Continue saltbaths for a few days after the fungus clears to be on safe side.

BTW I had to both saltbath and fridge one of my sister's baby axies due to fungus, from a tail/leg being mistaken for food earlier in the year - s/he recovered and was about an inch or so in length! Since its a smaller axie you will probably use a smaller container so just need to adjust the quantities accordingly - as long as the water covers him/her.

I did saltbaths for Stumpy in a small plastic cup; about 1/4 of a litre of dechlorinated water; 1/2-3/4 teaspoon of salt.

And yes make sure you use clean saltbaths each time, as it's any fungus bits that come away will be in the saltbath water.

im not 100% with a baby.
what i would do is seperate it from the others.
then get a food bowl or something not to big, id say with a litre capacity. put maybe 0.5 of a teaspoon per litre, or maybe a little bit less, coz its a baby. also, i wouldnt put it in the fridge, but maybe in a cool part of the house, maybe in the garage, or cellar. they seem to heal faster at lower temps but coz its litle the cold could be a bit of a shock, coz they are quite delicate.
put the little axie in this salt solution for 8 minutes, a little less tha adults id say because its still little. do that twice a day, and continue for 2 days after it seems to have disappeared.
hope this helps

THANKS SO MUCH what fast response I have just done it now, il see how thngs go, doesnt look good though was on his back a min ago, poor thing!
shall i put some live daphnia with him?

Sorry, Victoria was typing while you were uploading your pics so missed them the first time. It does look like fungus my sisters had except Stumpy had tail nipped at end and one of the legs where fungus developed, hence nickname. You can sort of see tiny little hairs if you look at it from different angles, I usually contort myself to get clearer views of it!

If he's on his back lower the water to just above his back and just keep checking so he doesn't flip over! And yes I know easier said then done sometimes especially with babies, that are tiny!

Yes it is, can you lower it or move the tank/container to cooler part of the house?

strangly this is the coolest part of the house, they are in my bedroom which is a loft room, I have both windows open so there is air blowing through, should I put the sick one in the fridge?
Also all of my other tanks are reading 23, I think it might be because the water is only 2inches high, we use rain water you see but here in UK we havent had any rain for a while so I havent been able to change it.

And also I have just seen that one of my golden babies has a strange look to the skin on his torso its like stippled any ideas why?

Never seen the stippling before, if by stippling you mean the bits sticking out!

May pay to put your little one in the fridge then. Check the temperature if unknown by placing a glass of water in the fridge with a thermometer. Check it in about 15/20 minutes. If 5C or above then s/he can be put in the fridge.

If you do, make sure to put a bottle of water in the fridge which can be used when doing complete daily waterchanges and for the saltbaths.

when was the last time you waterchanged them? And do you test your tankwater at all? Do you keep the water low for feeding?

If you have a shortage of rain, it may pay to use tapwater with added water conditioner/ager/dechlorinator that removes the chlorine and chloramines.

Ah, is your weather warming up there or are your rooms heated?

I think the little one is dead or very very near, i have found it on its back twice in the last 15mins. I clean them out everyday as in remove poo/food but havent changed the water for a week i think maybe 2.
I used tap water once before and it really irritated them, they were spinning around all crazy and a few nearly died.
And yes the weather has been strangly hot the last few weeks here in England. Do u live in NZ my sister emigrated there 2 years ago!
Did you see the pic of he one that has stippled...scroll across from my question!

Also, saw the stippling not sure about it. Only thing can suggest is test your tankwater in case its all related.

When you use tapwater you need to add a water ager/conditioner to remove the chlorine/chloramines. if there is still a problem then test your tapwater. You may need to use bottled spring water if that;s the case for waterchanges

Test your tankwater for ammonia/nitrites. If your water is that low it may foul quicker with ammonia/nitrites and temp related especially if you haven't done a waterchange in about 2 weeks.

Yes in NZ, I worked in London for several years in the 90s; our weather is starting to cool down a bit now which is making our axies happier.

Are you Paul's friend? - he sent me an em a month or so ago?

when I used tap water I did put a conditioner in it, but i will continue to use rain water, until they are a bit bigger or for when they go to new homes. I do test my water and its fine. My boyfriend is bringing home some rain water from a friends water butt so i can change some tonight.
Do u mean paul meehan, if so then yes I know him but only though this sight we have chatted quite a bit through msn messenger, do you have that?

No, I don't use MSN Messenger, just gmail chat; but yes that Paul!

With your water being that low, it will need to be changed a lot more than just once a fortnight. Ammonia is invisible and with temp being 24 can stress your axies. How's the wee one doing?

I have cleaned and changed the water and made it higher Im not sure if it has made it I have done the 2 salt baths and it was alive then but I havent wanted to prod it to see if it moves..ill have a look in the morning but im expecting the worse Unfortunatelly !

hi victoria

if you are going to use tap water try king british for your anti chemical thingy (sorry mind so blah this morning) it has alo vera in it to sooth the skin and my axies have no problem with it. the baby loves water changes and zooms round the tank finding the new cold water lol

good luck with yours
