My axolotol has developed severe gill fungus to the point all of its gills are covered. I've started him on two salt baths a day but dont think its working. PLEASE HELP!! starting to stress heaps over the little guy:(

When did you start the salt baths and are you fridging the axolotl?

I started the salt baths 3 days ago but will now try fridging him as well. the salt bath ratio im using at the moment is 2tblspoons per 10lt and bathing him for 10mins twice a day

Your ratio is 2 tablespoons of salt per 10 liters of water?

I typically use 2-3 teaspoons of salt per 1 liter for 10-15 minutes.

I think your ratio of salt to water is far too weak which is why it is ineffective.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
