HELP! MY AXIE JUST LOST A LEG!

mercurochrome is no longer avaliable according to the 10 chemists i called. apprently it made the wound worse in some cases, so now its no longer avaliable.
I need to know the active ingrediant in mercurochrome so i can look for an similar product. fanx

Hmm. Personally I'd stick with Meth Blue. I used baths and a very low tank dose when I was caring for Ziggy ( a friends) who's leg was hanging off, another bitten and swollen, had fungus and many other issues.

He did very well and grew both limbs and feet back - albeit a little smaller than the originals.

I've used this in a few cases, with very high success rates. Only use a 50% dose however, and a 35-40% dose for the tank.
Don't forget it will trash plants, and it can throw your cycle off.

It may be worth just doing 30min baths daily in 50%, rather than the tankdose - just a thought.

Keep up the good work :D

Try leaving the camera nearby, and bring it very slowly closer over a course of a few hours.

All my animals are camera friendly now - even my loaches.

Weird how some Axie's take it better then others. I have this little runt of a thing who got her leg chewed on by a bigger axie. It ended up doing the same thing with bloating and falling off. She seemed quite okay with everything. I gave her a few salt baths here and there. No fridge cooling or medications. She now has her toes growing back, took a while though. Actually I should be saying she/he. I think it's a she. You should just stick with one plan and keep to it or Daddy will get more stressed. Don't use any medications if you can. Otherwise the constant change in water will probably cause more damage then it should. That's my advice.
If you're trying to take a photo, make sure you're not creating a shadow over him, or the other way around with light. That might be what sends him crazy. Makes my precious babies (1yr) go crazy when there's light one second then shadow the next!

when i take photos i dont like to use the flash, i like to take them in a well lit room.
i have not givin him salt baths in a week, but i have been keeping his water cold. hes half leg it still on, but its alll pale and lots of flakes r falling off it.
i had to seperate buttercup from rap as she tryed to go for him too. i suppose she the type that need to keep seperated.

nothing has changed with his leg so far..im waiting for the other half of the leg to fall off but it dont seam to be doing that.

It takes a while. Mine took ages then it just fell off. I'm sure he'll be okay.

ok hes stumpy leg is now swolen and there are white flakes comming off it. i just gave him a quick saltbath and water change.
i will try and post a pic up.

Keep up with the salt baths.
If it's flaking, that means it'll come off in a couple of days, or rather the worst will shed off.

Best of luck!

If it isn't infected it should grow back within a few weeks so my source says. You probably already know that they can regenerate their limbs and some vital organs. Even bits of their spine.

I hope it goes well with your axie. If it happened to mine id freak best of luck

still no changes. but im no longer giving him salt baths, just 7min baths in melafix and pimafix.
melafix in the morning and pimafix b4 bedtime.

Don't stress my axie Pumpkin is only just sprouting a new foot from where the old one still hangs after an altercation over an earthworm, that was well over a month ago... he just plods along with his backwards foot! bleeding gills spells too much medication.
Fresh dechlor water and nice cool temps like others have said sounds best,

Melafix is my favourite product for axie's! It's gentle enough not to burn them... also sounds rather silly but are you talking to your axie? I really reckon they respond to talking and music....
Just a thought

i do talk to my axies, infact i sing to daddy while i give him his baths

.

I don't know much about caring for a lost limb but i do know that there is a slight chance that it could grow 2 legs. This is very rare but can happen. Im not trying to freak you out but i'm just saying that it's an unusual fact.

When i say my axolotl's name he goes to the edge of the aquarium and looks at me.
