Hi all hope you had a great christmas i need some help with one of my axies hes turned red his veins are really red looks like hes got a rash his gills are really red guess that caused from the stress now ive never had this happen before and i dont want him to die i took him out and put him into some salt water in an icecream tub i use 4 teaspoons of salt and well i dont think he liked it much he rolled over onto his back so i took him out. ive now put him into the fridge. I has also seen two new types of bugs in their tank one is a white stringy worm they just float about the tank when they move they wriggle really fast the other type i just saw today are these little round brownish balls that crawl really fast and i think that i saw a few on my babies back. ive got him in the fridge and taken the other on out so now im just going to wait for the reply thanks

I would hold off doing the saltbaths unless he actually has any noticeable infection or fungus. How much water did you use when doing the saltbath and was it dechlorinated. Usually the dosage is 2-3 teaspoons per litre or 2 pints of water for 10minutes-15minutes max.

Just keep him in the fridge doing daily waterchanges until he improves also lower the water so it just covers him and his feet rest on the bottom if he seems off balance or floats a bit.

What is your tank temperature and have you added anything recently (within the past 2/3 weeks) to your tank?

No idea what the worm thing is but are you able to post a photo or have you checked out this link: http://www.caudata.org/cc/articles/Tank_critters.shtml

no i have looked at that link before nothing like what i have these things are about 3/4 cm long and are thinner than a piece of cotton string. I used an ice cream container when i salt bathed him and i filled it right up but hes was in for about 2 mins max i have taken them out and bleach cleaned their tank going to start again do i need to change the temp of my fridge ?

As long as your fridge temp isn't 4 degrees or lower. We have ours at a minimum temp of 5 degrees celcius when our axies are sick and go into it.

Do you have the water test kits to test your tank while it is cycling again? Next time you probably wouldn't have needed to break it down completely, 10-20% daily waterchanges without your axies in it may have fixed the problem. And you should, if you hadn't already, check the temperature and test the water regularly/weekly or more for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates if your axies appear stressed/redden just to rule out any water issues.

Did you add any plants recently that they may have come in on?

I had an out-break out tiny little bugs in my old axie tank.

Just get a few goldfish and they will clear the little bugs up in less than 48 hours!

I have two goldfish ( toblerone & kitkat chunky ) that I use to help clean up tanks and to help cycle, they do an amazing job.

Hope that helps.

Well i would have left the tank running but ive just moved into my mums but then shes moving on the 14 of jan so im just going to start cycling water in a container for their tank.

the only thing i put into their tank in the last two months was a apple snail which i fired cause he was lazy and well my mate wanted it anyways lol also i had 7 guppies which got eaten with in the first 3 days of been in the tank

Another reason why i didnt want to use the old stuff is that im going to get some white same for my tank..

the other aixe looks ok looks like the red rash is starting to fad but hes still not doing well. when i was looking at him in his tank i could see at least three of the little worm things attached to him

And the other things that look like worm well they swim like mosquito lava but like i say they where white and where thin and about 3 cm long.

Do i need to feed like dilly in the fridge or not his belly was swollen on one side when i put him in the fridge but its gone down today thanks for all your help i dont know what i would do with out ya thanks
