My mom got me two axolotls as a present last year, I have a boy toothless who is a wild axolotl and I have asteroid who is a leucistic axolotl. back in October I noticed that the main part of one of her gills had gone deep red and I could see the vain. I didn't think much about it she was still acting normal. about two months later I noticed that all the little parts on the gills had almost all fallen off and started to start falling off on the other two gills on the other side. Last night I noticed that I can start seeing the vain on the other side and I'm worried that the same thing is going to happen and she will die. I don't want to lose her can anyone help me?

First thing to do is to check all the tank parameters (ammonia, pH, nitrite, nitrate, temperature). Bad tank conditions directly cause illness or weaken them over time so that they develop illnesses. Let us know the values.

Next, can you get a picture? Sometimes a picture helps people recognize what is going on.

What kind of filter are you using? How often do you change the water and how much? What kind of decorations do you have there? What kind of substrate?

Sorry to only be able to ask you questions at this point, but if you get the answers, maybe we can give better help.

The good news is, it doesn't sound like Asteroid is in critical condition, so you have time to figure out what the problem is.
