Help needed - vomiting

Hi guys I am very new to this as these were originally my daughters but circumstances meant I have taken them on now and am really enjoying it however I am hoping one of you will know the answer to my problem. So I fed my 2 last night went to bed everything fine. When I came down this morning Arthur (the biggest) has what looks like a skin tag on the right side of his lip he has been quiet all day and suddenly just threw up what he ate last night! He is not floating his gills are fluffy but more forward than usual and he is continually trying to get in a plant pot that is too small for him or trying to gulp air. Does anyone know what might be wrong?

i’m not sure exactly, but it’s possible he’s having a digestive issue like impaction. do you have any grave, or rocks in the tank? also - he’s gorgeous

Hi thank you yes he is gorgeous if he is in fact a he there is sand in the tank not gravel and I think maybe I over fed him as he seems fine this morning and no more vomiting it will stay that way. The skin tag seems to have gone too so am wondering if he caught himself on slate hide. Would it be best to salt bath him today just to be sure it doesn't get infected? Thank you for the reply too as I was very worried last night

salt baths are tricky, they can do more harm than good if done incorrectly. does he have a mark/wound where his skin tag fell off? if not, he’s probably alright. otherwise, i’d try fridging him and then a salt bath if things really start going south - and of course i replied, i love being able to help people

Okay thank you I will keep an eye on him today see how he is and won't feed him again until he has pooped I have 4 in total all of which are very cute. There isn't a problem with the water as I check it regularly at least 3 times a week and the his tank mate seems fine so am thinking he caught himself on something. These are my other 3

Salt baths are for fungal infections, not minor scrapes. They should also not be performed unless absolutely necessary as they will damage their gills and slime coat. Most small cuts and abrasions will heal on their own without any help. If you wish to provide a soothing, therapeutic treatment, black tea baths are the go-to.
