One of my axies was in a tub while I did a water change and the dog took her out. She wasn't out long. I've put her back in a tub of cool clean dechloribated water. I'm so upset I'm shaking. Wounds look superficial. She's got some damage to her back fin. What can I do to give her the best chance of healing please? Her floofs are fluffong up more.

The wounds do look superficial which is good news! My biggest concerns would be infection and stress. Be extra diligent about making sure they're kept in cool, clean water. Maybe provide extra places to hide and keep the light off/darken the tank to help them feel safe. At the first sign of fungal infection I would begin salt baths as per the sticky in this thread but wouldn't start them unless you see signs to reduce stress. Id also consider adding Indian almond leaves to the tank to promote healing and reduce stress, I believe they also have antibacterial properties.
Maybe also search this forum for signs and treatment for bacterial infection as well, especially since dogs mouths are full of bacteria, I don't have any experience with that but know others have.
I think they're gonna be ok tho they came away remarkably unscathed! I hope both of you start to feel better, sounds like a terrifying experience.

Keep it cool and feed lightly. It should bounce back. If their are signs of fungus or other infections treat with Furan 2 at half dose.

Thank you very much. I really appreciate it.

Me again... should I leave the hanging bit of skin... or cut it off? (I'm not keen to cut it off just wondering if it will heal / regenerate like that...)

Thank you

Thank you

I wondered the same thing after my ******* lizard woke up and decided to snack on the tip of their tail. I decided to let nature do it's thing and leave it. Ended up healing over just fine after two weeks with no signs of damage ever happening. They are very resiliant little things.

Wishing your bud the best of luck with it's recovery!
