Illness/Sickness: Help please, very worried

Coolies beans :) just wondering where to purchase these almond leaves?
and is using a net safe for them? i havnt really heard it dont much and was wondering if it was ok?

I believe you can get Indian almond leaves on eBay and other online stores.

I am not actually sure about netting. I have heard mixed stories on whether it is safe or not. I usually use a small container and just coax the axolotl in with my hands to catch them.

I don't see anything wrong with netting. If you're worried about slime coats being broken, a healthy axolotl should constantly be producing its slime coat so unless you're netting it nonstop, it should be fine. Fish also have a slime coat and most aquarist will definitely choose their nets over anything else.

Mainly I had heard or been advised that they can limbs caught in the netting. But I have wondered whether this is the case or not as most fish nets I have seen are very fine netting that their limbs wouldn't fit through the holes of so I have wondered about it.

Ah okay yeah I was only referring to the aquarium netting that is very fine. I have a bunch of all sizes and my largest can easily handle an axolotl.

Oh awesome thank you :)
just a question, when you do 100% water changes, if u skoop them with a container would you need to net them back into thier tub after the change? or will that tiny bit of old water be ok, making in a 95% water change, if you just tip them back from the tup?

And how bad is it to touch/transfer an axolotl with bare hands? i have heard the same thing about damaging the slime coat as with netting

Handling them is not a great thing to do too often and best kept to a minimum. I try not to touch mine too much at all but just use my hands to guide them into the tub. As long as you are not doing it too often though it should be ok. However make sure your hands are clean. To do the daily changes though you might find it easier to have a second tub to transfer the axolotl to. So you fill the second tub with fresh water, transfer the axolotl to that tub and discard the water from the first tub. A net might be more practical in this way. I wouldn't see the 5% water being harmful as long as you are being diligent in doing daily water changes

Net's won't do much damage to their slime coats as long as they are healthy. Our hands are covered in oils, soaps, and other things that are not good for amphibians. Handling an amphibian too often can make it very sick or even dead just by our oils getting into their skin. They breath partly through their skin so it can block that for them.

Oh goodness, no handling - check! :)
rightio, i should be able to manage this tubbing now with that 5% of water :)
thanks for all your help and just letting you all know that both my axies are 100% percent healthy atm with regular eating/pooing/not floating and are just generally loving life :)
again, thanks for the help with the tubbing and the transferring advice, this is all so new and nerve wracking, but a great experience all the same :D
