Illness/Sickness: HELP - Rescued Axie from pet shop with Nitrates OFF THE CHART!

I am so sorry to hear of your loss Nikki :-(
I'm glad to hear that you've reported this to the RSPCA. If you have a care sheet that you would like distributed in the Newcastle area let me know and I'll run it around too.

Obviously submitting posts on iPhones isn't such a good idea. Apologies for that random !

No need for apologies - not sure which post was random so don't worry :)

I'm on an iPhone too & at this hour my fat fingers need a special dialing wand instead of mashing the keypad (sorry Simpsons) do you use tapatalk on your phone?

Yes, together with large fish:

I threw in these shots for extra measure, those fish were still breathing...

Goldfish. With... an axolotl at the bottom?

Dead fish

Either attacked tail or fin rot, and another fish with some kind of fungus I think

Am reporting these people to the official authorities of animal protection (in our country, it's called GAIA)

Holy cr@p. I've never seen axolotls in such poor condition :( i hope the shop gets investigated and closed down x

You know... I couldn't help myself. I bought one of those sad little things, I want to save it... No doubt countless have already died, and I wanted to save at least one of them from that horrible fate.

When I got home, I fed him some small earthworms once he settled down.
He just puked them up... together with a small amount of bloodworms... and these:

Five rocks. Not one, not two, not three or four, FIVE.
Needless to say, after he puked these out, he suddenly seems a lot more mobile and comfortable.

Thats horrible! You need to go down there and say something! They have no legs or gills :( Makes me so sad! I wonder if they'd sell dogs with no legs or ears

Don't hesitate - make the complaint!
Put your name to the complaint - dont remain anonymous - those conditions were appalling & unacceptable! Chase the authorities & make them take this complaint seriously!!

Wait until the authorities take action - then name & shame this shop!
(As will I once the shop I dealt with has been completed)
Enough is enough - it's time to stand up for these guys rights!

I understand you wanting to save your little guy & I would've found it impossible to not just reach in grab them & put them into water bag pockets - then run!
But giving that shop money & not a lecture & official warning is still supporting their business :( I know it's a dilemma - but they'll never learn if we continue to pay for animals in a poor condition!

0.0 all those rocks!!! I could cry for him!
:( imagine how that would've felt

Actually, I believe the picture with the rocks he threw up might help me support my claim in showing how they swallow these things.

If anything, it can be seen as more "evidence"

Poor little one... he looks almost embarrassed in that photo! I bet he's grateful for being saved... curse shops that carry animals and don't care about them or their needs! Especially when they're arrogant and think they "know it all" when clearly the animal is suffering!

Please let us know what happens (with both the shops)! I just hope that 5 was ALL he ate! What if he still has more...

It would be evidence if it was a video of the actual regurgitation - as it is it can't be actually proven that the rocks were ever inside the animal. :( the law is pedantic & sadly not always fair. The store could argue that you somehow took the stones from the tank or just happened to have a pile of the exact same stones at home etc etc - I'm not a fan of always having to 'prove beyond all reasonable doubt'.

I do agree that the photos & rocks will be invaluable - definitely keep the rocks as evidence.
I really do hope the authorities do their very best when it comes to punishing the shop.

I hope your new boy settles in fast :D What's the new additions name? :)

Nikki, remember that shop "passion 4 pets" You linked their care sheet on here as the worst one yet, well i emailed them, took me a good half hour to write, I'd love to forward it to you for a good laugh if you want, pm me your email address ;)

GAIA is very strict when it comes to animal protection. While the photo may not serve as evidence in a case, it will certainly help draw attention to the issue from their side.

The new fella's name shall be Dilly :D
That now makes Dweeby, Derpy, Dopey and Dilly. Hehehe.

I certainly hope they throw the book, the library & the bloody shelves too at these cretins - it's a shame there isn't more caring retailers out there - I'm loosing faith that they exist :-/

As for Dilly & the D-Team that's is a cool name & an awesome addition to the team :) (I've noticed an S theme amongst my growing crew)

Please keep us updated on what happens to the shop.

Perhaps someone could start a 'Name & Shame' sticky list of shops that have been reported - if enough people continue checking on these shops & reporting them if necessary then maybe they'll start to pay attention.

Axolotl Army ........ Attention! :D

These made me feel ill. I cannot understand how people who run/own a pet shop and call themselves pet lovers do this! This is disgusting! I wish I could grab them all and give them a better life, this is so cruel.

Those pictures made me physically ill. How can anyone say they are taking care of those poor creatures!? If you compare those to ahealthy axie you can barely even tell that those are suppose to be axolotls. No gills missing limbs it looks like burns all over their body.
It makes me so angry! They look disgustingly unhealthy and in all honesty they probably would be suffering less if they were dead(as morbid as this sounds i would rather be dead then living in that tank) unless somehow there was a bunch of you guys wiling to try to save each and every one(and even then they seem pretty far gone)
Im actually a little glad that pet stores around here dont sell them, and i was forced to go with a private breeder. They dont deserve to live like that :( i know its an old post and i dont even know how i found it. I hope they get what is coming to them(the petstores)

The problem is if people keep buying them to save them, the pet shops keep stocking them. It's so tough watching them suffer though. Its a situation where you can't win unless the pet shop gives them for free and don't make profit on them.

I think it's time to name and shame.
I bought my ribbon from a pet shop and spent 8 weeks trying to save him before he died and broke my daughters heart..
